New Discoveries and Old Memories

A few weeks ago I was over at my friends Chris and Cher's house and I said that I needed to go to (insert name of large meat store here) to buy some steaks for grilling season. Cher informed me that there was a small store called Wilson's Grocery here in town that gets it's meat from the same supplier as the larger store and sells it about 30% less. So today at lunch I drove to Wilson's to check it out. Cher, you were right. Great selection and good people. I picked up some pork chops so I can try out the new Brown Sugar Pork Chop recipe.

This place reminds me of a little store back home in Eastern KY called Farley's Grocery (better known back there as Charlie Farley's). It brought back a lot of memories from my youth. You see, back there when people were giving directions, they used "Charlie Farley's" as a landmark. It was always something like, "Turn left and go past Charlie Farley's" or "It's about a mile past Charlie Farley's" or "If you get to Charlie Farley's you've gone too far."

It's funny how something like buying meat will bring back memories of days gone by. It made me smile all the way back to work.

So if you need good fresh meat at reasonable prices, go check out Wilson's Grocery. And if you're in the mood for some of the best hot dog chili you'll ever taste, swing by "Charlie Farley's" on Blackberry Creek - that is, if it's still there... I haven't been there in years!

It's Back!!!

Happy LOST Day everyone!

After a five-week break, my favorite show returns tonight with all-new episodes. I can't wait... although, it doesn't really feel like five weeks have gone by. I guess that would have a lot to do with baseball season being back and other shows like The Office returning after the writer's strike.

Finally, I have something to be excited about. Usually at this point in the baseball season, I would still be excited about my beloved Cincinnati Reds, but seeing as how we're 22 games into the season and the Reds are 9-13, it's kinda hard to be excited. But I remain a good, loyal and faithful fan. 149-13 - you gotta believe!!!!

Wanna See Something Funny?

While looking through some old pictures, I found this one of me playing with the old band at A1A a few years ago. What was that look on my face?

Anyway I got a good laugh out of it and you probably will, too.

Randomness

-I'm bored.
-As I type this, the Reds are getting destroyed by the Dodgers.
-Long Duk Dong plays at O'Neill's the next two weekends!!
-I really need to update my blog more often.
-So far, 32 has been better than 31...
-New Indiana Jones movie comes out May 22!!
-New James Bond movie comes out in November!!
-I found a recipe for Brown Sugar Pork Chops that sounds mighty tasty (may need to try this soon)
-I wonder if anyone is reading this...
-The new REM album is pretty great.
-LOST comes back Thursday!!!
-My future wife and the Hobbit got back together (BOO!)
-Is it just me or was Eli Stone the best new show this season (due in large part to Natasha Henstridge).
-Keeneland has gone by way too fast.
-Is this the end of cold weather? Please?
-I've been working way too late over the past few weeks, but leaving early on Friday has been pretty sweet.
-Will I have another vacation in this lifetime? Not looking good right now...
-Is anyone STILL reading this?
-It's April 21 and I still have no earthly idea who I'm voting for in this Presidential election (I know who I'm NOT voting for, but that's a topic for another day).
-Why do I always see the most stunningly beautiful women when I'm in traffic and not when I'm buying groceries?
-I highly recommend the HBO mini-series John Adams.

-Should I make a withdrawal from the Harley Fund to buy a new plasma TV?

And the winner is....

Congratulations, baby doll. I knew you could do it!!
Thanks to everyone who participated. It was a lot of fun. I'm sure I'll have another equally stimulating Hot Girl Tournament in the near future. Stay tuned!

Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday. I am the kind of guy that doesn't make a big deal about birthdays anymore. There are a few birthdays over the course of one's life that really "matter" - 16, 18, 21, 30, 40, 50, etc. This year I turned 32. Not exactly over the hill, but not exactly young. I guess I just feel like I'm too old to be young and too young to be old. It's a weird place to be.

Anyway, a bunch of friends and I got together yesterday to celebrate "Tax Day" since my birthday and tax day fall on the same day (and because I refused to celebrate my brithday this year). I have to say it was a blast. Leave it to the patio crew to make me forget just how old I am. They are the best friends anyone could ask for. They love me even when I am unlovable. They accept my quirks and unique personality. They make me feel like I matter, even when I feel like I have nothing to offer in return.

Thanks a lot, guys! I really appreciate you!

There Will Be Blood... There Will Be Freakin' Blood!!!!

Time for another movie review. I have been slowly making my way through this year's Oscar nominees. So far, this one has been the best. Daniel Day-Lewis definitely deserved the Oscar for Best Actor. He was great!

I loved this movie, although I will say, it's probably not for everyone. For instance, there is absolutely no dialogue for the first 15 - 20 minutes. I actually thought this was kinda cool. The cinematography was second to none and Jonny Greenwood did the original music, which was a definite plus.

The movie was written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. He has a pretty good batting average in my opinion. I loved Hard Eight, Boogie Nights and Magnolia (Punch Drunk Love was a turd, but they can't all be home runs).

I highly recommend this movie. It was well worth my time. Next up will probably be Juno, so stay tuned... Until then remember - I drink your milkshake!

It's Opening Day...Again!!!

This is just one of the many reasons I love living in Lexington. Everybody sing along now - It's the most wonderful time of the year!

The Final Four

After a week of voting the Final Four in the Hot Girls of TV Tournament has been established. Here they are!

The Heroes Bracket

Ali Larter
Kristen Bell

The LOST Bracket

Evangeline Lilly

Emilie de Ravin

Remember, you have the power to pick your favorite Hot Girl of TV. So you have until next week to vote (otherwise, Evangeline Lilly is gonna run away with this thing 'cause that's who gets my vote in the LOST Bracket). Get involved people! C'mon! This is easier than choosing between McCain, Obama and Clinton...
